Assets Building Committee

"Welcome to a world where all young people are valued and thrive." This is the vision of Search Institute of Minneapolis, Minn. (www.search-institute.org) whose mission is "To provide leadership, knowledge, and resources to promote healthy children, youth and communities."

In MSAD #54, most young people in the 8th and 11th grades took the Search Institute's "Profile of Student Life: Attitudes and Behaviors" Survey. The data developed from this popular survey are used by thousands of schools and communities across the United States and Canada to develop assets-building strategies and to create positive new visions for their youth. Over two million youth have participated nationally and many states have become involved in statewide initiatives in the process.

This Survey will help our community understand:

  • The positive experiences and characteristics (assets) young people need to grow up healthy.
  • What our young people think of their school and community.
  • The relationship between assets and thriving behaviors, and between assets and high risk behaviors of our community's youth.
  • Where to focus our funding dollars so we can build positive change programs in key areas.
  • Realistic opportunities for youth to contribute to school and community goals.
This Survey of MSAD #54 youth will help us create positive change for our youth by:
  • Promoting asset building in our community and provide a common language through which to communicate about youth.
  • Providing data for grants and funding reports for initiatives or programs that build assets and support community efforts.
  • Suppling a "youth voice" to our organizations and community planning.
