Downtown Revitalization Project
Downtown Revitalization Project Downtown Revitalization Project

The Town of Skowhegan has received 2 grants from DECD, the Downtown Revitalization Grant and the Non Profit Grant. Both grants will need to be finished in the next 18 months following the sewer and water construction project in the downtown.

The Downtown Revitalization Grant ($400,000.00) will include funds for finishing the Stamped Sidewalks in the downtown, Replacing the rusted Metal light poles with new decorated light poles, creation of new benches, trees, plants; installation of new interpretative signs, and final funds for doing a facade grant program.

The nonprofit grant ($250,000.00) will start the reconstruction of the Sterns building in the downtown area. This building will provide public bathrooms, public meeting space, and elevator to 2nd floor. Follow up phases will provide ADA access to surrounding 2nd story vacant space. This project is still looking for funding to finish the reconstruction. Anyone interested in making donations please contact Jeff Hewett at 207-474-6905 or email at skowecon@skowhegan.org.
