Mission Statement

The mission of the Skowhegan Board of Assessors and the Assessors’ Office is to maintain fair and equitable assessed valuations and accurate ownership information that are the basis of the allocation of municipal property tax burden in accordance to state law.


The Office maintains extensive information on all properties in Skowhegan which is readily available for inspection or review by taxpayers and the public. Informational requests related to property taxes, tax policy or law, tax exemptions, etc. are processed as quickly as possible.

Real Estate


If you have constructed, altered or removed any buildings since April 1, 2023 and on or before April 1, 2024, please notify the Assessors’ Office at (207) 474-6903.


Business Personal Property


If you have started a new business, you need to notify the Assessors’ Office to obtain forms for filing a list of your business furniture and equipment.


In accordance with Title 36, Section 706 of the Maine Revised Statutes, failure to furnish lists of taxable property or any of the aforementioned changes on or before the dates requested will bar one’s right of an abatement of taxes.

Information regarding the Tax Stabilization and valuation updates

2024 Mill Rate set at 17.72 - September 20, 2023. 

Tax bills will be mailed by September 29, 2023. 

First payment due October 20, 2023

Second Payment due March 15, 2024.
