Responsibilities

The Code Enforcement Department is responsible for the enforcement of:
  • The State of Maine Plumbing Code
  • Subsurface Waste Water Disposal Rules
  • Shoreland Zoning Ordinance
  • Subdivision Standards
  • Floodplain Management Ordinance
  • Building Codes and Building Safety Ordinance
  • Site Plan Review Ordinance
  • All State codes pertaining to unsafe buildings, building construction and the Automobile Junkyard / Graveyard law

The Planning Department provides professional short-term and long-term land-use planning services to:
  • Skowhegan Residents
  • Taxpayers
  • Board of Selectmen
  • Planning Board
  • Heritage Council
  • Conservation Commission
  • Many other Town Boards and Staff
